Zimbabwe National Football Team is in the country for Sunday’s friendly match against the Flames at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.
The Warriors arrived in the country late Saturday afternoon through Chileka International Airport.
Initially, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) announced that the Warriors will travel by road and arrive in the country on Friday afternoon.
However, the Zimbabwe government shot down the arrangent and ordered ZIFA to fly the team into team the country.
FAM Communication Director Gomegzani Zakazaka comfirmed the latest development in a statement.
“I can comfirm that Zimbabwe National Football team has arrived in the country today (Saturday) and is putting up at Crossroads Hotel in Blantyre.
The team had to charter a plane to fulfil this fixture because their government refused to permit the team to travel by road due to the threat of Covid-19”, Zakazaka said.
Meanwhile, the FAM Communication Director says the match will be played without spectators as one way of adhering to government’s set Covid-19 preventive measures and guidelines.
“In view of this, FAM has partnered with Mibawa TV to beam the match live and the same will be livestreamed through FAM facebook page.
Equally, the match will be broadcast live on Times Radio and Ndirande FM to accomodate those with no access to Television Station”, he said.
On Wednesday, the Flames lost to Zambia’s Chipolopolo by a goal to nil in another strength testing match played at the Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka, Zambia.
