Zimbabwe’s Warriors arrives in the country on Friday, ahead of Sunday’s international friendly match against the Flames, the Zimbabwe Football Association says.
The Flames are coming from a 1 nil friendly match loss to Zambia, played on Wednesday at Lusaka’s Nkoloma Stadium.
ZIFA’s announcement removes the uncertainty that surrounded the warrior’s availability for the strength testing match against the Flames.
In the course of the week, Zimbabwe’s preparations were disarranged due to the abrupt decline of some key international players, called for duty.
Meanwhile, Warriors coach Zdravko Logarušic included nine locally based players in his 18-man squad which will face the Flames this coming Sunday.
Notable faces in the squad include Khama Billiat who plays for (Kaizer Chiefs), Aston Villa’s Marvelous Nakamba, Alec Mudimu (Sherriff Tiraspol) and Charlton Mashumba (Polokwane City).
In a statement, Zifa Communications Manager Xolisani Gwesela said the announcement of the team was delayed as they were waiting for government clearance to travel to Malawi.
“The list would have been announced before the commencement of the international break as is the norm, but the announcement had to be delayed until we had clearance from government travel to Malawi for the match.
” The government approved our request to travel to play Malawi on 8 October 2020″.
As such the team is expected to leave for Blantyre on Friday”, Gwesela said.
Malawi take on Burkina Faso, while the Warriors have a date with African powerhouse Algeria in back-to-back qualifiers next month.
