The freshly established partnership between Super League of Malawi and Old mutual will help enhance high performance culture among players, SULOM President Tiya Somba Banda says.
The two sides signed the pact which will among other things see Old Mutual dishing out MK50, 000 kwacha and MK200, 000 for weekly and monthly player of the month respectively.
Covid-19 has hit clubs hard due to a ban on supporters during Super League matches and the sponsorship will help alleviate the stress, Somba Banda added.
Roy Punungwe of Old Mutual Life Insurance Company said the reason behind setting up this sponsorship is to motivate players and create excitement among football stakeholders including supporters.
Punungwe observed that Football is a short-term career as such Old Mutual will take part in training football players to make sure they plan for their future.”
He said: “As a responsible business, Old Mutual thought of supporting local football, more especially the football player, despite the prevailing challenging times.
Through our Old Mutual Timba Family Plan sponsorship, we will also conduct financial education trainings to Football Players to inculcate them with knowledge on the importance of saving for their future.
The 2020 – 2021 football season started without the players awards but when the football resumes the football players will start getting the awards.
