SRVL hopeful of running a successful two-month 2020 Volleyball Season

Southern Region Volleyball League-SRVL has put two months to start and complete the 2020 season.

General Secretary for the league Charles Msusa said this following a directive by government that sports can return with preventive measures after about 9 months of no action.

Msusa said “before the suspension, we had developed a plan to start the League games in the southern region. We simply moved the same plan”.

“The first two weeks of October 2020 will be utilized by our teams for friendly games”.

Thereafter, we will engage our teams to play in the six zones on a league basis in which two teams from the zones will play at a regional competition”, he said.

The league is expected to be completed before the end of the month of December this year.”

Furthermore, Msusa said the number of teams in the zones is yet to be determined when they register for the zonal league.

“We expect 12 teams to battle it out at the regional finals. That’s for men. We might have lesser ladies’ teams, Msusa added.

Asked on what the league will do to make sure the games are safe of Covid-19, Msusa said the association is distributing some preventive materials to be used by the zones.

He added that some civic education on the same was done with the zone leadership and expectation is that participants will adhere to the set Covid-19 preventive guidelines.

The 2020 Season will be sponsored by Member of Parliament Jappie Mhango who is also Volleyball Association of Malawi-VAM President, to the tune of 2.5 Million Kwacha. Men will run in a 1.5 million Kwacha race while women have 1 million Kwacha to fight for.

Northern Region Volleyball League-NRVL got its share last year while Central Region Volleyball League-CRVL is yet to pocket.

In around April 2019, prior to the 2019 Zone VI Championship which Malawi Hosted in December last year, Mhango also offered 7.5 million Kwacha for all three Leagues at 2.5 Million Kwacha each to help the teams prepare.
