Silver Strikers trashed TN Stars 4-0 at the Silver Stadium on Monday to reclaim the top spot in the TNM super league.
First half hat trick from Maxwell Gasiteni and Stain Davie’s 88th minute goal ensured that Daniel Kabwe’s men move one point above second placed Civil Service United.
The home side pressed the Kasungu based super league outfit high throughout the first half and got a goal reward in the 26th minute through Maxwell Gasiteni’s opener.
Twelve minutes later, Gasiteni added the second in the 38th minute before completing his hat trick with three minutes afore halftime. Late in the second half, Stain Davie Salah wrapped up the three points.
The emphatic victory was not pleasing win as Silver Strikers players looked rusty, Coach Daniel Kabwe said in a post-match interview.
He said: “I am not impressed. I think we have lost a bit of touch. I mean, you see how we are playing. In terms of fitness I think we were better than our opponent that’s why we capitalized.
Otherwise, in terms of play, I think we were a bit rusty. We could have scored two goals in the early minutes of the game but we failed. So that’s my worry.”
His counterpart, Joseph Malizani said his players gave the host too much respect soon after the bankers broke the deadlock in the 26th minute of the match.
The players managed to contain them in the first 25 minutes until the host broke the deadlock in the 26th minute, Malizani said.
“However, due to loose marking, we were unable to tame our opponent whenever they laid siege in our own half which forced us to concede those quick goals.
But after halftime pep talk, my boys played well and were able to contain the bankers again”, he added.
TN Stars remain seventh, eight points adrift of league leaders, Silver Strikers.
