Malawi National Netball team has for a second year running finished on second position after South Africa claimed this year’s Africa Netball Championship staged in Cape Town.
The Proteas who were returning to the tournament after missing the 2018 competition hosted by Uganda registered an impressive 100 percent winning streak to snatch the title from Uganda’s she Cranes.
The Africa’s netball champions won all the six matches to their credit including vital wins against the deposed cup holders Uganda and the Malawi Queens.
Other teams that got beaten by South Africa’s national netball teem include Kenya, Lesotho, Zambia, Zimbabwe, save for Tanzania which did not show up for the tournament.
To return the runners up position, the Malawi Queens won five out of the six games played during the tournament.
After failing to beat South Africa last Saturday, the Queens recovered with wins against Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Lesotho respectively.
Queens’s coach, Peace Chawinga Kaluwa commended her charges for giving it all despite their failure to win the title.
“Our aim was to go back home with this cup but sadly we go home only with some bronze medals.
Nonetheless, the tournament has taught us great lessons that may prove to be vital in our future games”, Kalua said.
The result means, Uganda’s She Cranes have finished third after surrendering the title to the host, South Africa.
The tournament was taking place in South Africa’s Cape Town city.
