Gor Mahia Star handed Flames debut

The Flames arrived back in Malawi from Zambia on Thursday and went straight to camp to continue with their preparations.

Malawi Men’s Senior Football team Coach Meck Mwase has squeezed in a wood to his squad with a maiden call to Kenyan based Andrew Malisero.

Previously, Mwase worked with Malisero while serving as head coach for the Malawi U-20 national football team.

The Flames host the Zimbabwe Warriors this coming Sunday, their second international friendly match since the six months long ban on Sports activities due to Covid-19 was lifted last month.

Coming from a 1 nil loss to Zambia on Wednesday, Mwase has got some work to do with his team which he described as “rusty” in a post-match interview.

Remarking Malisero’s inclusion in the squad against the Warriors, Mwase said all along, the lad has always been in his plans.

“He is very dedicated. Very strong and hardworking boy. So, we hope he is going to give us an edge on our preparations.

We have been monitoring him and we think this is the right time for him to come and join us”, Mwase said.

Malisero, a striker, who recently signed for Gor Mahia in Kenya arrived in the country on Friday morning through Kamuzu International Airport and will join the rest of the squad later in the afternoon .

The Flames match was initially expected to be played at Kamuzu Stadium but has since been shifted to Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe, Blantyre.
