Elia Kamphinda Banda has resigned as Malawi Armatures Boxing Association General Secretary.
In a letter addressed to MABA President Pyson Likagwa, seen by SWAM 365, Kamphinda Banda says the reasons for stepping down are personal.
“I would like thank MABA family for supporting me from the date I rose to that position.
“I am happy that as I leave the offices I have made friends in boxing and the entire sporting fraternity whom I shall cherish to remember within Malawi and abroad”.
My heart remains in boxing and sports in general”, the past immediate General Secretary said in a statement.
Speaking to one of the local radio stations, Kamphinda Banda amplified his reasons for stepping down mentioning pressure of work as chief among the grounds.
“There’s too much work related pressure for me at the moment and I feel it is better for me to focus on the tasks at hand.
Boxing is a huge sport and requires due attention to the sport hence my decision to step aside pave way for someone who is ready to do”, he said.
Kamphinda Banda’s bond with MABA dates back to 2008 when he was elected into the boxing body’s executive committee before his rise to the position of General Secretary, which just returned 11 months ago.
His deputy Dennis Chavula is expected to act on the vacated post until a replacement is identified.
