Government: Hats off to Mwai

Mwai Kumwenda is a true testimony that Malawi has got unbelievable netball talent; Minister of Sports Ulemu Msungama says.

The Minister’s observation is contained in a congratulatory statement issued on Monday in honour of Mwai’s remarkable contribution towards her club Melbourne Vixen’s first Australian Premiership win since 2014.

The Queens sharp shooter Mwai was on Sunday named player of the match after scoring 47 goals for her side in a nerve cracking 66-64 drubbing of West Coast Fever in the Super Netball grand final played at Brisbane Nissan Arena.

According to thewest.com.au the Melbourne Vixens goal shooter Mwai Kumwenda dominated the Super Netball grand final.

In a statement Msungama said “her outstanding performance on the court is classic and she has once again put Malawi netball on the international map.

“Mwai’s remarkable performance at her Australian club and that of the Queens back home reminds us of the great potential our netball has.

“And that as government and all stakeholders in netball, we must hold hands to supporting the development of this sporting discipline.”

Early this month, the Malawi Queens major netball export Mwai Kumwenda, played a vital role when she remarkably lifted the Australian netball giant Melbourne Vixens into the Suncorp Super Netball grand final.

During the match against Sunshine Coast Lightning, Mwai had a 96 percent conversion rate, netting 31 goals out of her 32 attempts.

Two years ago, dazzling goaler Mwai Kumwenda re-launched back as commandant of the Melbourne Vixens’ attack after re-signing with the team.

Despite sitting out for most of 2019 as she recovered from an anterior cruciate ligament injury in August 2018, Mwai, the fan favorite has produced sparkling performance since her return to the game after recovery.
