The football Association of Malawi says it is discussing with government and other stakeholders on the possibility of resuming football games, suspended due to the COVID 19 Pandemic.
FAM President Walter Nyamilandu was responding to a petition received from the self-acclaimed concerned supporters, demanding for the rrestart of games in the country.
No sporting activity has taken place in the country since the Football Association of Malawi suspended all football activities as a mitigation measure to the further spread of COVID-19 in the country.
“As football supporters, this suspension has deprived us off our beloved sport. Life is too unbearable to live without the game.
Why is football sacrificed to suffer in the name of observing social distance when politicians are busy holding rallies that attract thousands of supporters, exceeding those watching football?”
“Therefore, we came here to tell Mr President that, let the games begin while at the same time assuring authorities that we are ready to observe social distance while at home”, said Mavuto Chiwambo, Spokesperson for the grouping.
Responding to the concerns President of FAM Walter Nyamilandu assured football lovers in the country that the Association is discussing with relevant authorities on football rresumption in full compliance of Covid-19 preventive measures.
“Currently, we are following the guidelines set by government and proper procedures for the process to be fruitful”, Nyamilandu said.
The COVID 19 has affected so many sectors in the country and recently FAM launched a relief package for players to help support them while they stay at home.
