Nyasa Big Bullets Football Club lovers may still have to wait a little longer before they see Captain John Lanjesi returning to play.
Bullets Head Coach Kalisto Pasuwa said this as the team is still in Mangochi preparing for the 2020/2021 season with Lanjesi on board.
The defender suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) damage last season in a 3-0 win over Mlatho Mponela at Kamuzu Stadium in TNM Super League.
Pasuwa said “he is one player who has been guiding the team and has got great leadership qualities. When we went to Zimbabwe for CAF(Confederations of African Football) Champions League [last year], we took him along, and now that we are on a pre-season tour, we have also travelled with him for team bonding.”
Pasuwa continued to say the defender is still on injury list and waiting for clearance by the team doctor. “That’s why he is always training alone to keep up with the recovery plan.” He told Bullets media on Thursday.
The Zimbabwean mentor also said it will be wrong to predict or rush Lanjesi into action before his full recovery.
“He suffered a major injury last year and it will be too suicidal to rush him into full training or games. He still has a long way to go and when the time is right, he will surely be cleared to play. For now, he is with us to advise the youngsters who need his guidance on what it is to play for this big club,” Pasuwa said.
Lanjesi could be missing his centre-back post having had his surgery last year and has been recovering since then.
His injury is defined as a sprain or tear in which the ligament is stretched beyond its normal range.
Nyasa Big Bullets are defending champions for the TNM Super League and Ecobank Charity Shield.
