Tabitha Chawinga says her return to COSAFA COSAFA Women’s Senior Championship after three years absence is exciting.
She last appeared at the Championship in 2017 but missed the 2018 as well as 2019 editions respectively due to her club engagements.
Tabitha who plays in China alongside her sister Temwa on Thursday joined the Scorchers camp at Mpira Village in Blantyre.
The feeling of returning to COSAFA Women’s Championships after a long break is overwhelming, the scorchers captain said in an interview.
She said: ” I am happy to join my colleagues ahead of the upcoming COSAFA tournament after missing the previous two editions.
As a team our target is do better at the tournament and possibly grab the championship by making sure that we register remarkable goal galore from the group stages, all the way to the final.”
The Scorchers Starlet also believes the upcoming regional Women’s Football showpiece presents a huge opportunities for the locally based players to realise their dreams of playing oversees.
“Each member of this squad must give their all because the national team is not about Tabitha or Temwe but it’s about team work.
This is an opportunity for my teammates who wants to play overseas, to show the European player scouts at the tournament that they are equal to the task.
The 2020 Cosafa Women’s Championship will be played in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa from 3-14 November.
The Malawi Women’s Senior National team are in group B of the COSAFA Championship alongside Zambia and Lesotho.
