Rainbow paints has committed to sponsor the 2021 southern region netball league, effectively writing off the league’s 2020 season kickoff.
Additionally, the company has opted not to adjust upward the sponsorship package currently at 7.5 million kwacha due to the impact of Covid-19 on their business.
BDNL General Secretary Annie Hanjahanja confirmed the news to swammw.com.
“I can confirm that last week we had a meeting with our league sponsors Rainbow Paints, where we presented to them a roadmap towards the restart of our games.
“During the discussions, the sponsors indicated their willingness to bankroll the 2021 and not the 2020 season.
As such they proposed that the 2021 season kicks off in December this year and end sometime in March next year”, Hanjahanja said.
She also disclosed that Rainbow Paints is considering the committee’s request for a two day tournament.
“Before the meeting, clubs and players asked us to plead with the sponsors to consider staging a two day tournament in the event they decline to bankroll the 2020 league.
I am therefore, happy to report that the company has promised to respond to our request on October 19 this year”, she added.
In view of this, BDNL has written their mother body Netball Association of Malawi (NAM), seeking guidance on the latest development.
